2014 Get Started Write Challenge: Guidelines

After more than a decade of working with the Writer’s Digest Writing Community, one trend is clear: January is a month when many people start chasing their writing dreams. However, most don’t keep it up into February.

To try and counteract this trend, I’m going to start a “Get Started Write” challenge on this blog beginning January 1, 2014. And yes, I realize it should read “right” instead of “write”–just having a bit of fun, which is what this challenge is all about: Making the process of being a writer fun.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Each day, I will provide a little challenge. It might be something related to submitting your work, a writing prompt, making a list, or whatever. There will be something.
  • Each day, I will also provide my own perspective–and attempt–at the challenge. If I’m asking you to do something, I should do it too, right?
  • And that’s it.

There are no prizes, no comments, no registration. This is all completely anonymous, but I hope it will help everyone get excited about their writing projects in 2014 and find more success this year than ever before.

(Note: For people who want to share their progress and attempts, I will create a Facebook group and have a Twitter hashtag chosen for that purpose–that I’ll share on New Year’s Day.)

I hope to see you back here on New Year’s Day!
